Alonso says there is no chance he will return to England this summer

Liverpool have been strongly linked with a move for former midfielder Xabi Alonso, but have been dealt another blow in the transfer window with the Spaniard stating there is no chance he will move to back to England.

Alonso has been linked with a move away from Real Madrid this summer, with a return to England his most likely destination.

Alonso has been linked with a return to Liverpool, having spent five seasons in England amassing a total of 143 league appearances.

Chelsea, who are now managed by Jose Mourinho, have been linked with a move for Alonso after the 31-year-old played under Mourinho at Real Madrid.

The Spanish playmaker though has dismissed these reports and says there is no chance to move to England and will remain at Real Madrid.

The 31-year-old told Spanish journalists: “The Premier League? No, before adding: “No way, no chance.”

Liverpool enter talks to sign former midfielder Xabi Alonso

Liverpool are reportedly entering talks to sign former midfielder Xabi Alonso for 12million from Real Madrid.

Alonso spent five seasons at Liverpool amassing a total of 143 league appearances for the Reds and helped Liverpool win the Champions League, the FA Cup and helped them to runners-up in the Premier League, but he was unsettled at Liverpool after Benetez tried to sign Barry to replace him and moved to Real Madrid for 30million.

Rodgers is interested in bringing back Alonso for 12million from Real Madrid but this goes against the Liverpool owners policy of signing youth that have good sell-on value, but Rodgers is prepared to break this rule and sign the 31-year-old.

Mourinho, who managed Alonso at Real Madrid, is prepared to sign him at Chelsea now but Liverpool are the front-runners for his signature after the player has admitted he misses Liverpool. Steven Gerrard has stated before that Alonso is the best midfielder he has played alongside with.

Real Madrid could work Alonso into the Suarez deal if they wanted to so they could cut the price they have to pay for the Uruguayan.
