Liverpool have agreed a loan deal to bring Valencia full-back Aly Cissokho to Anfield, with a view to make the move permanent next season. According to reliable sources such as the BBC and Sky Sports.
However, Cissokho will not be available for Liverpool’s first game of the season against Stoke City this Saturday, as he will be travelling to Merseyside next week to finalise the move.
Liverpool were targeting another left-back in Guilherme Siqueira, but the Reds could not agree a fee with his club Granada as the Spanish side wanted 12million.
Sunderland have targeted Cissokho and the Wearside club are prepared to make a permanent move for Cissokho, while Liverpool are only prepared to make a loan offer with a view to permanent deal next summer. But, Cissokho would prefer a move to Liverpool.
Liverpool are close to completing a 5million deal to bring Granada left-back Guilherme Siqueira to Anfield.
The Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has made signing a new left-back a priority for the club, as Rodgers wants competition for the left-back slot.
The 27-year-old is currently thrashing out personal terms with Liverpool after a 5million bid was accepted by Granada earlier in week.
Manchester United and Everton have both been linked with the player, but Liverpool expect no late interest from either of the two sides.
Siquiera is an attack minded full-back that has pace and power and has scored 17 goals in 70 appearances for Granada in a full-back position.
If Liverpool complete the deal then it will see Rodgers search for a left-back be complete after two moves for Lorenzo Melgarejo, who failed to get a work permit and Aly Cissokho, with Liverpool and Valencia not being able to agree on the fact whether or not it would be a loan deal.
Valencia defender Aly Cissokho has confirmed that he has agreed personnel terms with Liverpool over a move, all that’s left now is whether it’s a loan deal or a transfer.
Valencia are keen to sell the full-back as they are in financial trouble while Liverpool are keen to bring Cissokho on a loan deal, before possibly buying him next summer.
Rumors had suggested that the two teams had agreed a 870,000 fee to take Cissokho to Liverpool on loan for a season, upon agreeing a future fee which was reportedly set at 3.5million.
Speaking to Le10Sport, Cissokho said: “Liverpool came to me and it’s true that I have agreed to join them. Now it’s down to the clubs to decide a transfer deal.”
Cissokho added: “Liverpool want a loan, while Valencia prefer a permanent transfer.”
He said: “We should know more this week. If nothing happens in that time it will mean I am definitely not joining Liverpool.”
Reports today indicate that Liverpool have ended their interest in signing Benfica left-back Lorenzo Melgarejo, with many reports previously stating that Liverpool agreed a loan deal in principle to bring in the 22-year-old.
Liverpool are looking to strengthen their defensive ranks as Jose Enrique is the only senior left-back at the club now, after the Reds let Jack Robinson join Blackpool on a season long loan.
Both Glen Johnson and Daniel Agger have played at left-back before but Agger will start in the centre of defence and Rodgers is likely to stick by Johnson as he does not want to throw Martin Kelly, returning from a long layoff, straight into the mix of things.
Now, though, Liverpool are likely to move in for Valencia defender Aly Cissokho as defensive cover for Jose Enrique.
Reports in Spain have stated that Cissokho has agreed terms with the Reds and will become Liverpool’s fifth summer signing.
Sunderland held a strong interest in the full-back but it seems as if Liverpool have beaten their Premier League rivals to Cissokho.
Liverpool are ready to bid 4million for Valencia left-back Aly Cissokho, as the Reds look to cash in on Valencia’s financial trouble.
Aly Cissokho is available on the cheap as Valencia are having financial trouble, just like most Spanish sides, and Liverpool are ready to look to Spain again.
Liverpool have already signed two Spanish players in Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas from Seville and Celta Vigo respectively, with Mark Lawrenson claiming Liverpool will continue to look to Spain for bargain deals.
The 25-year-old played 20 games last season for Valencia having signed for the Spanish outfit in 2012.
Liverpool are looking for a left-back to challenge Jose Enrique for the starting spot, as their main target was 19-year-old Lucas Digne, but he looks Monaco bound.
