Daniel Agger has had a heart-to-heart with manager Brendan Rodgers about leaving Liverpool

Agger former clubLiverpool vice-captain Daniel Agger has had a tearful heart to heart with manger Brendan Rodgers about wanting to leave the club he has spent 8 years of his career at.

The 29-year-old made his emotional request during the Reds recent pre-season tour of America.

Agger is now reportedly set to be sold, with Barcelona leading the chase for the Dane.

Agger made just 23 appearances for Liverpool last season and fears he is facing a losing battle to get back into the first team picture, with Liverpool adding 20million Dejan Lovren to their already packed defence.

Agger was given permission to leave the tour by manager Brendan Rodgers, although the stated reason was through injury.

The centre-back clearly loves Liverpool, as shown with getting YNWA tattooed on his knuckles weeks after signing a new deal in 2012.

As things stand Agger is not in Rodgers first team plans next season and Liverpool would be willing to listen to offers of around 12million.

No doubt a legend for Liverpool and as loyal as a player gets but maybe its the right time for Agger to depart. What do you think of the news?

Luis Suarez and Brendan Rodgers statements after Luis Suarez confirmed departure

Luis Suarez2Luis Suarez today issued the following statement to the club’s official website, Liverpoolfc.com.

“It is with a heavy heart that I leave Liverpool for a new life and new challenges in Spain. Both me and my family have fallen in love with this club and with the city.

“But most of all I have fallen in love with the incredible fans. You have always supported me and we, as a family, will never forget it, we will always be Liverpool supporters.

“I hope you can all understand why I have made this decision. This club did all they could to get me to stay, but playing and living in Spain, where my wife’s family live, is a lifelong dream and ambition. I believe now the timing is right.

“I wish Brendan Rodgers and the team well for the future. The club is in great hands and I’m sure will be successful again next season.

“I am very proud I have played my part in helping to return Liverpool to the elite of the Premier League and in particular back into the Champions League.

“Thank you again for some great moments and memories. You’ll Never Walk Alone.”

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers today issued the below statement following the announcement that an agreement has been reached with Barcelona for Luis Suarez to leave the club.

“Luis is a very special talent and I thank him for the role he has played in the team in the past two years, during my time at Liverpool.

“I think he would be the first to accept he has improved as a player over that period, along with the team and has benefited from being here, as we have benefited from him.

“The club have done all they can over a sustained period of time to try to keep Luis at Liverpool. It is with great reluctance and following lengthy discussions we have eventually agreed to his wishes to move to Spain for new experiences and challenges. We wish him and his young family well; we will always consider them to be friends.

“We are focused on the future, as we strive to continue with the progress we have made and build on last season’s excellent Barclays Premier League campaign.

“I am confident we will improve the team further and will be stronger for this coming season, when we will be competing on all fronts; domestically and in the greatest club competition in the world, the Champions League.

“If there is one thing the history of this great club teaches us, it is that Liverpool FC is bigger than any individual. I hope our supporters continue to dream and believe that we are moving forward and with continued improvement and progression, together we will bring the success we all crave and deserve.”

Liverpool end Alexis Sanchez pursuit as Arsenal close in on him

Alexis SanchezLiverpool have reportedly given up in their pursuit of Barcelona attacker Alexis Sanchez.

Liverpool wanted the Chile international to make the move to Anfield, hoping that he would be keen on the move as a makeweight in the Luis Suarez deal.

However, according the Liverpool Echo, the Reds have been unable to persuade the 25-year-old that his future is best served at Anfield.

Making matters worse for Liverpool they could be facing the prospect of him lining up against them, as Arsenal are closing in on a 30million deal.

Both Liverpool and Arsenal are willing to match the Catalan clubs valuation of Sanchez, who struck 21 times for Barcelona last season, while Juventus also have a long standing interest in the player.

It has been reported that Sanchez’s representatives have let Liverpool officials know that the Chilean prefers a move to Arsenal, with the team based in the capital, London, being a key factor.

Additionally, this means that the Luis Suarez deal is going to be a straight cash, around 75million, with Barcelona having already agreed to meet the Uruguayans release clause.

Liverpool open talks with Barcelona for Luis Suarez

Back home suarezBarcelona will begin negotiations with Liverpool on Wednesday to sign Reds striker Luis Suarez.

Officials from both clubs will meet today in London to discuss the future of the 27-year-old.

Shamed star Suarez, who has 4 years left on his Liverpool contract, is currently serving a four month ban for biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini.

Liverpool want at least 80million for Suarez, although Barcelona are willing to offer one of their players to Liverpool and money.

Barcelona want to sign the player for around 60million for a player that Liverpool signed from Ajax for 22.7million in the January of 2011.

Any deal may depend on whether Barcelona are willing to let Sanchez, who is rated at 30million, go in part-exchange.

It is not yet clear whether or not Sanchez will be willing to move to Liverpool, but the Catalan club are willing to let him go.

Suarez apologised for biting Giorgio Chiellini without Liverpool knowing, leading to people claiming he was under Barcelona’s orders as they wanted him to apologize. after which Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta said: “Suarez has shown he is humble enough to admit an error, which is very important.

“Everyone knows Luis is an excellent player, everyone knows last season he played in various positions in attack, but everyone also knows he is a Liverpool player.”

Croatia midfielder Ivan Rakitic, who joined Barcelona on Tuesday, had his say as well

He said: “The fact he has had the character and the strength to go in front of everyone and say sorry says a lot about him as a person.

“Not every person has that strength to admit they have done something stupid.

“Regardless of whether the club signs him or not, his quality is unquestionable.”

Suarez apologises…but Liverpool had no idea he was going to make a statement, fuelling move to Barcelona

Bite suarezLuis Suarez completed a sensational U-turn yesterday when he released a statement apologising, but Liverpool had no idea he was making a statement.

Barcelona have told Suarez that he won’t get his dream move to Spain unless he publically makes an apology for the incident, fuelling talks that Suarez is leaving even more.

Suarez made an apology to bite victim Chiellini, which was accepted by the Italian, and also stated that his third biting incident in recent years will be his last.

It became clear that his actions were designated to force through a move to Barcelona.

Barcelona are said to be putting a bite clause into the contract of Luis Suarez, as they seek assurances that these incidents will stop.

Barcelona are confident Liverpool will sell their star player after he has been banned from all of football for 4 months.

Initially Suarez and his homeland were in denial about the shocking U-turn.

Liverpool want 80million for Luis Suarez and it seems Barcelona are willing to match it, even if they let a player go in exchange as well as cash. Barcelona have already held talks with Suarez’s representatives regarding a move and the Catalan club are confident that Liverpool will sell.

Dispelling the myth that Liverpool need new centre-backs

It is widely regarded by many fans that Liverpool need new centre-backs in the team to tighten up at that back, but this couldn’t be any more inaccurate.

On paper Liverpool have three or four top centre-backs already in Daniel Agger, Martin Skrtel, Mamadou Sakho and Kolo Toure, as well as two other centre-backs that spent last season on loan in Tiago Ilori and Sebastian Coates who both could have bright futures in the game ahead of them.

Fans, including myself, have criticised Kolo Toure’s performances at times this season, and rightly so, but he is Liverpool’s fourth choice centre-back and if our other defenders had stayed fit he would not have gotten as many games as he did last season. In terms of depth in these positions we have it perfectly, not even Manchester City have four well rounded defenders that can make the jump into the first team.

Kolo Toure had a nightmare season, but he is 4th choice

Kolo Toure had a nightmare season, but he is 4th choice.

People can slate our defenders at times but when you consider the amount of changes we have had to make in our back four, due to injuries or loss of form, any team will suffer from this. Our first defensive partnership off the season was Kolo Toure and Martin Skrtel, who played superbly in our opening two 1-0 wins of the season, until Toure got injured. Skrtel has since partnered all three of our other centre-backs this season and for a team challenging for the title you need a steady partnership, look at Chelsea with Cahill and Terry, Arsenal with Koscielny and Mertesacker and Manchester City with Kompany and Demichellis, for most part of the season, all these teams have had a great partnership at the back, which comes with more game time played together.

Barcelona look to sell Liverpool target for 8million

TelloBarcelona are prepared to sell 22-year-old winger Christian Tello this summer for 8million, with Liverpool and AC Milan vying for his services.

Liverpool have been long term admirers of Tello, who came through the Barcelona youth academy. The Merseyside club made a failed attempt to sign Tello on loan in the summer.

Tello has made 19 league appearances this season for the Catalan club, 17 of those coming off the bench.

It is believed that Tello has scheduled a meeting with Barcelona’s Sporting Director Andoni Zubizarreta for the end of the season, but it is believed that Barcelona will look to sell Tello for any bids in excess of 8million.

With Liverpool being in the Champions League next season they are looking at options to further improve the depth of the squad to compete in cup competitions as well as the league.

Rodgers: Daniel Agger not for sale

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers he does not expect defender Daniel Agger to be leaving the club any time soon.

Barcelona have been linked with a move for Liverpool’s Danish defender, just like they were last summer before Agger signed a new contract.

“This is all about loyalty,” Rodgers told a press conference.

“He’s obviously a world-class defender. Daniel is very committed to Liverpool; he’s one of the players that have really impressed me.

“If we’re talking about loyalty, he was one of the first players that I spoke to when I became the manager. At the time, there were a number of big clubs looking to sign Daniel.

“But he gave me his word that for as long as I wanted him to be at Liverpool, he would be at Liverpool. He has never swayed from that.

“He has an unswerving commitment to Liverpool which is so refreshing. His loyalty to the club is incredible.
