Adam Lallana has transformed his Liverpool career and is becoming a key player for Liverpool

When Liverpool signed Adam Lallana back in the summer of 2014 eyebrows were raised at the 25million price tag that former boss Brendan Rodgers forked out. This was a player that had just two years experience in English footballs top flight division having played for Southampton for 8 seasons, playing in league one and the championship before Southampton were promoted to the Premier League in 2012.

Lallana was a key figure in Southampton earning back to back promotions from league one to the Premier League, he scored 8 goals in the season they were promoted to the championship from league one and scored 11 goals in the championship where they spent just the one season before reaching the so called ‘holy grail’ having fallen so far away from top level football for a number of years.

Lallana struggled to get to grips with the Premier League in the Saints first season back in the top flight and it wasn’t till the second season where he showcased his talents to the world, he scored a impressive 9 goals in the league for Southampton as they had achieved a top half of the table finish and he also got in the PFA shortlist for player of the season at the annual Premier League awards. Lallana was rewarded for his good season with a place in England’s 2014 World Cup campaign, and this prompted Liverpool to swiftly move in for him.

Daniel Sturridge could be out for the rest of the season

sturridge injuryLiverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has today stated that Daniel Sturridge could now miss the rest of the campaign.

Sturridge has had an injury plagued season as he has struggled with hip and thigh problems all season and hasn’t made a appearance since the Reds FA quarter final against Blackburn.

Sturridge has appeared in just 18 of Liverpool’s 53 games so far this season, and boss Brendan Rodgers has put doubt into Sturridge’s position in the team stating that the Reds need a goalscorer that can play and score on a consistent basis “I need one that is going to be playing and at a top level every week.”

Rodgers said on Monday: “It’s been difficult, Daniel is a good lad who wants to play and help the team but it’s been one of those seasons for him.

“He’s been very unfortunate and we’ll have to monitor day-by-day and see where he’s at.

“When he’s been fit, he’s been brilliant, it’s just about getting him back on a consistent basis. Whether that’s this season, or pre-season, has to be seen.”

Brendan Rodgers: No offers for Liverpool defender Daniel Agger

AggerLiverpool boss Brendan Rodgers insists that there have been no offers for Liverpool defender Daniel Agger.

The Dane sat out the 4-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund with a knee problem, and has been repeatedly linked with a move away from Anfield.

According to numerous reports Agger has asked Rodgers if he can leave the club this summer with concerns he won’t get first team football.

But Rodgers said: “I saw some stories on Agger, but we haven’t had any enquiries. Daniel is still getting some work done on his knee. He’s been unfortunate since the tour of America, but we haven’t had anything, no offers.”

Brendan Rodgers has also revealed that new 20million signing Lazar Markovic could be fit for Liverpool’s opening fixture against Southampton this Sunday.

He said: “Hopefully, Lazar will be available. If not for Sunday, certainly for the next week. He’s had a slight problem with his tendon, but he’s up to speed, working with the sports science team and looking very strong. And if he just misses out next week, he’ll certainly be available for the next game.”

Daniel Agger has had a heart-to-heart with manager Brendan Rodgers about leaving Liverpool

Agger former clubLiverpool vice-captain Daniel Agger has had a tearful heart to heart with manger Brendan Rodgers about wanting to leave the club he has spent 8 years of his career at.

The 29-year-old made his emotional request during the Reds recent pre-season tour of America.

Agger is now reportedly set to be sold, with Barcelona leading the chase for the Dane.

Agger made just 23 appearances for Liverpool last season and fears he is facing a losing battle to get back into the first team picture, with Liverpool adding 20million Dejan Lovren to their already packed defence.

Agger was given permission to leave the tour by manager Brendan Rodgers, although the stated reason was through injury.

The centre-back clearly loves Liverpool, as shown with getting YNWA tattooed on his knuckles weeks after signing a new deal in 2012.

As things stand Agger is not in Rodgers first team plans next season and Liverpool would be willing to listen to offers of around 12million.

No doubt a legend for Liverpool and as loyal as a player gets but maybe its the right time for Agger to depart. What do you think of the news?

Transfer Rumours: Liverpool add Vidal, Pogba and Marco Reus to shortlist

MAIN-Arturo-Vidal-Paul-Pogba-Marco-ReusLiverpool look to smash through the 100million barrier this summer for the first time in their history.

Manager Brendan Rodgers has already spent 60million this summer and still has QPR forward Loic Remy, Southampton defender Dejan Lovren and young Swansea full-back Ben Davies on his radar.

Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Liverpool are still looking to spend and looks to have the whole 75million from the Luis Suarez deal to spend this summer “We are working hard behind the scenes to find players, but it will not be a direct replacement [for Suarez].

“We are looking for several players who can add to what we have and improve us again.”

Last summer Tottenham spent 85million after selling Gareth Bale, and it did not work out for the Londoners.

Manager Andre-Villas Boas lost his jobs 4 months later, after Tottenham saw their title hopes fade and saw their Champions League hopes fades to.

However, Rodgers claims that selling Luis Suarez will make them stronger in the long run as they now have the financial capabilities to challenge Manchester City and Chelsea.

The Northern Irishman, who steered the Kop club to a surprise second place last season, said: “Obviously, Luis going gives us the clout to go and spend more and we are getting the right type of player in.

“We certainly won’t spend just for the sake of spending. It has to be the sort of player who is going to improve us. But we will definitely be stronger this season – no doubt.”

Liverpool have already brought in Adam Lallana, Emre Can, Rickie Lambert and Lazar Markovic and they look certain to double the 60million they have spent already.

Liverpool tried earlier this summer to sign a ‘marquee signing’ in Alexis Sanchez, but he favoured a move to Arsenal over Liverpool.

Liverpool want a top class midfielder and could target Arturo Vidal or Paul Pogba, with Vidal being linked with a move to arch-rivals Manchester United.

Vidal would cost around 30million but Liverpool have Champions League football that they can offer, something that Manchester United could not attract Vidal with.

Paul Pogba has been linked with Chelsea this summer, but will cost around 60million to price away from Juventus this summer.

Liverpool are also targeting Marco Reus, who could be available for around 30million, and would offer another threat up front or on the wing.

Any of these players would represent a marquee signing by the Reds and would lift the fans spirits for the new season after the departure of Luis Suarez.

Brendan Rodgers: We will move on from Luis Suarez

Rodgers and SuarezBrendan Rodgers has urged Liverpool fans to keep on believing in Liverpool and that there is life after Luis Suarez.

This is the first time Rodgers has spoken publically about Luis Suarez since the 75million deal for Luis Suarez was confirmed.

“Luis going doesn’t lessen our ambitions – we want to continually improve. I thank Luis contribution over the years at the club, he’s a wonderful player, but we will move on,” he explained.

“Luis, in his contribution over the years, has been wonderful but he has moved on and I will concentrate on the players we have – and who have won many games without him playing.”

Rodgers has vowed to bring in more signings, although they might not be direct replacements for Suarez.

“We’re working hard behind the scenes to get the best players- not a direct replacement, but who can add things to our game again,” he explained.

“We will go and do our best. Our best last year nearly won us the title. It’s going to be competitive because everyone is strengthening but the beauty is we are a young group and will progress again.

“It will be a really exciting season and this year we will have the belief to go with the quality. The players we have here are a fantastic group who have won many games without Luis.”

Suso wants to stay at Liverpool

Suso2Suso spent last season on loan at Spanish side Almeria, where he impressed, and he has now outlined his intention to make his mark at Liverpool.

The young midfielder is ready to fight for his place in the team following a loan period last season.

Suso has now returned to Merseyside where he wants to make his mark after gaining first team football last season.

“After the season in Spain, I think I have become a better player – I learned a lot,” the playmaker told Liverpool’s official website.

“Obviously Liverpool are going to sign a lot of players because we are in the Champions League this season, and we have to have a good squad because there are a lot of competitions.

“But if I fight for my place, I do my best every day in training and when I have the chance to come on or start a game, if I do well, I could have chances to play a lot of minutes in the first team.”

The Spain under-21 international says he has held positive talks with Rodgers regarding his first team football prospects.

“I came here in December at Christmas when I had my week of holidays….I came here for two or three days to have a meeting with the manager,” Suso added.

“He talked to me, said he was happy with what I was doing and said that this season he wants me to stay here.

“I want to stay here and sign a new deal – for me, there is no bigger club than Liverpool.”

Luis Suarez and Brendan Rodgers statements after Luis Suarez confirmed departure

Luis Suarez2Luis Suarez today issued the following statement to the club’s official website, Liverpoolfc.com.

“It is with a heavy heart that I leave Liverpool for a new life and new challenges in Spain. Both me and my family have fallen in love with this club and with the city.

“But most of all I have fallen in love with the incredible fans. You have always supported me and we, as a family, will never forget it, we will always be Liverpool supporters.

“I hope you can all understand why I have made this decision. This club did all they could to get me to stay, but playing and living in Spain, where my wife’s family live, is a lifelong dream and ambition. I believe now the timing is right.

“I wish Brendan Rodgers and the team well for the future. The club is in great hands and I’m sure will be successful again next season.

“I am very proud I have played my part in helping to return Liverpool to the elite of the Premier League and in particular back into the Champions League.

“Thank you again for some great moments and memories. You’ll Never Walk Alone.”

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers today issued the below statement following the announcement that an agreement has been reached with Barcelona for Luis Suarez to leave the club.

“Luis is a very special talent and I thank him for the role he has played in the team in the past two years, during my time at Liverpool.

“I think he would be the first to accept he has improved as a player over that period, along with the team and has benefited from being here, as we have benefited from him.

“The club have done all they can over a sustained period of time to try to keep Luis at Liverpool. It is with great reluctance and following lengthy discussions we have eventually agreed to his wishes to move to Spain for new experiences and challenges. We wish him and his young family well; we will always consider them to be friends.

“We are focused on the future, as we strive to continue with the progress we have made and build on last season’s excellent Barclays Premier League campaign.

“I am confident we will improve the team further and will be stronger for this coming season, when we will be competing on all fronts; domestically and in the greatest club competition in the world, the Champions League.

“If there is one thing the history of this great club teaches us, it is that Liverpool FC is bigger than any individual. I hope our supporters continue to dream and believe that we are moving forward and with continued improvement and progression, together we will bring the success we all crave and deserve.”

Rodgers looking for hungry players

Brendan RodgersBrendan Rodgers has stated that when searching for new players not just ability will play a part in the potential signings.

Having narrowly missed out on the Premier League title to Manchester City last season Liverpool have been busy in the transfer market already, with the signings of Rickie Lambert and Emre Can.

With Rodgers insisting that mentality will play a key part in any potential signings as the Reds look to go one better next season and win the Premier League title.

He told the Liverpool Echo: “What we do need to do to ensure we kick on? We need to ensure we continue with our thinking in terms of the types of players we’re going to bring in.

“We want to bring in players who are hungry. They must have the ambition to want to come in and succeed here.

“We need players who there can be no doubts about their quality.

“We’re in a position now where we’re going straight into the group stage of the Champions League and we’re going into the Premier League next season with an expectation and a belief that we can win the league.

“We need players that have those qualities. That belief, players who are willing to improve and who are hungry to improve themselves.

“If we can get a number of signings with that profile then we can go on and build on last season.”

With Liverpool qualifying for the Champions League Rodgers knows he needs a bigger squad to keep the team fresh.

It’s one where we just need good players,” added the boss.

“The position we were in last summer was that we were losing players who were cover players and it was difficult for us to bring in starters.

“This year the squad will change around. We will need to change the team regularly over the course of the season in order to keep the efficiency and the energy in the team.

“Those players who are coming in need to be capable starters. They have to be to the level that we require to perform. That is absolutely key for us this summer.”
