Liverpool plot move for Leandro Damiao if Willian transfer falls short

According to the Daily Mirror Liverpool have turned their attention to Brazilian striker Leandro Damiao, if a move for Willian falls through.

Liverpool are after Brazilian Willian and are readying a 30millon bid and are prepared to pay Willian’s wages of 110,000-a-week, an increase in his 90,000-a-week salary at Anzhi.

Tottenham and Manchester United are both preparing to hijack Liverpool’s bid to sign the 25-year-old, and Liverpool do not want to be left short for attacking options.

Rodgers has the funds to make a marquee signing for Liverpool before the transfer window closes.

Liverpool have already missed out on top targets Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Diego Costa, and Liverpool are concerned that the same could happen with Brazilian Willian.

Liverpool have a list of back-ups though if the move does not go through and Leandro Damiao is at the top of the list.

The striker has long been admired by Liverpool’s Premier League rivals Tottenham, but have failed to negotiate a deal with his club.

Damiao still wants a move to Europe though, and Rodgers believes he can find a forward line that can take Liverpool to the next level.

Liverpool prepared to splash the cash on Anzhi star Willian

Liverpool are prepared to meet the 30million asking price set for Willian and are prepared to match his 100,000-a-week wages, but are aware that the fact they are not in the Champions League will count against them.

Willian is keen to play in England, having been linked with both Tottenham and Manchester City as well as Liverpool.

Liverpool have missed out on both Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who went to Borussia Dortmund and Diego Costa who has chosen to remain at Atletico Madrid. Liverpool have missed out on these targets due to not being able to offer Champions League football.

Willian only moved from Shachtar Donetsk to Anzhi just last season in a 34million deal in January. Since then the Russian club’s billionaire owner Suleyman Kerimov has embarked on a huge cost-cutting exercise with all of Anzhi’s stars, including Samuel Eto and Willian, effectively put up for sale.

Liverpool have been looking for a marquee signing all summer and Willian falls into that category. The 25-year-old can play on the left-wing or behind the striker.

Brendan Rodgers admitted last season he wanted someone to play on the left wing so he could slot Coutinho into the ‘number ten role.’

Eriksen can move to Liverpool if he wants says Ajax manager Frank De Boer

Ajax coach Frank De Boer insists he will not prevent Ajax star midfielder Christian Eriksen moving to Liverpool this summer.

Eriksen, 21, has been strongly linked with a move to Liverpool this summer and De Boer has suggested that Liverpool are now in pole position to sign the young Dane.

Eriksen was strongly linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund, but they signed Liverpool target Henrikh Mkhitaryan instead. Bayer Leverkusen have also been linked, but Eriksen wants to move to a club that can match his ambitions.

Eriksen has insisted that he will sign a new contract at Ajax if no one signs him this summer, as he does not want the Dutch giants to get nothing for him. Eriksen is available at 15million but no one has placed in a formal bid yet.

De Boer has suggested that Liverpool are now in the box seat for Eriksen, and he will not stand in the way of his move to Liverpool.

“It is up to Christian what he wants,” De Boer said, according to Sky Sports. “If he feels good going to Liverpool, then it is up to him. I would want nothing more than having him with us for a few more years.

“But we realise the interest in this kind of player is huge. And I can also understand that he wants to make another step in his career. I can’t stop him.”

Liverpool targeting the trio of Christian Eriksen, Toby Alderweireld and Ryan Bertrand

The Daily Mirror has today reported that Liverpool are after Ajax duo Christian Eriksen and Toby Alderweireld as well as a move for Chelsea left-back Ryan Bertrand to create a top four squad.

Both Christian Eriksen and Toby Alderweireld have one year on their contracts and are both widely expected to leave Dutch giants Ajax.

Manager Brendan Rodgers has been linked with Christian Eriksen for a while now and he is available for 15million. Liverpool have now turned their interest to the Dane after missing out on Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who snubbed Liverpool to move to Borussia Dortmund.

Dortmund had been chasing Eriksen but they have chose Mkhitaryan over the Ajax playmaker but Liverpool expect competition from Roma and Tottenham.

The Denmark international has been one of Europe’s outstanding talents in recent seasons. Two summers ago he was on the verge of a move to Manchester City but the deal broke down after a proposed meeting with then manger Roberto Mancini scuppered the deal.

“But we realise that the interest in this kind of player is huge. And I can also understand that he wants to make another step in his career. I can’t stop him.”

Despite the fact that Liverpool can’t offer Champions League football, it is understood that he is interested in a move to Anfield.

De Boer added: “If Liverpool go back to really good possession play, it can be a success for Christian. But it does mean that their entire way of playing has to change. It is up to Christian what he wants. If he feels good going to Liverpool anyway, then it is up to him.”

Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld has rejected the chance of discussing personal terms with Norwich City after Ajax agreed a fee of 7million.

He explained why he would not be open to a move to Premier League side Norwich City, opening the door for Liverpool to make their move.

“I am keeping all my options open,” said Alderweireld. “I am not rushing out the door. The whole picture of my next club has to be perfect. With every offer I am receiving this summer, I look at the pros and cons. The total package of my next club has to be right for me.”

Rodgers has also made an enquiry into Chelsea highly-rated young Chelsea left-back Ryan Bertrand as they look for someone to challenge Enrique for the left-back slot.

Liverpool prepare 15million bid for Brazilian midfielder Bernard

Several reports have today claimed Liverpool look set to make a 15million bid for Brazilian side Atletico Minero’s midfielder Bernard.

Liverpool missed out on their top transfer target Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who joined Borussia Dortmund for 23million, and have also had hopes of signing Eriksen dashed as Tottenham are leading the chase for the Danish midfielder.

Tottenham were favourites to sign Bernard at one point but having signed Paulinho for 17million from Corinthians their interest has now cooled.

This leaves Liverpool free to negotiate with the highly-rated Brazilian playmaker, who recently took part in Brazil’s successful Confederations Cup tournament.

The 20-year-old is thought to be available at around 15million, less than what Liverpool would have paid if they had brought in Mkhitaryan.

Bernard, at just the age of 20, has made over 90 appearances scoring 20 goals for a club that he was brought up from the youth academy.

Liverpool are looking for a creative midfielder and are likely to bid for either Bernard or Erikson, and are prepared to pay good money for either player.

Christian Eriksen still open to Ajax departure, as Liverpool revive their interest

Ajax playmaker Christian Eriksen is still in contact with ‘certain clubs’ according to the 21-year-old’s agent.

Eriksen, whose contract expires next summer, has been linked with Liverpool, Tottenham and Borrusia Dortmund for 15million. Lately though interest has cooled down for the Danish star, but Liverpool are set to reignite their interest in him.

Liverpool have missed out on top transfer target Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who moved to Borussia Dortmund for 23million. Liverpool are now ready to reignite their interest in Eriksen and are the favourites to land him after Dortmund have already signed Mkhitaryan and have dropped their interest and Tottenham have cooled their interest lately, leaving the door open for Liverpool to make a move.

Eriksen’s representative, Martin Schoots, claims that there are ongoing talks with several clubs who could be interested in signing the 21-year-old playmaker.

“We are still keeping in touch with certain clubs.” Schoots told Sporten.dk.

“That will always be the case with a player like Christian. At this point, it is hard to tell if it will end up with a transfer.”

Eriksen will not walk away from Ajax for free in 2014, when his contract expires, and will sign a new contract with the Dutch giants to get them a fee for the player if he does not leave this summer.

“He wants Ajax to get money for him and therefore he will extend his contract, in case he does not succeed in finding a new club,” said Schoots.

Liverpool face huge blow as Borrusia Dortmund move in on Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Liverpool are set to be dealt with a huge blow in their summer transfers plans as they look set to miss out on number one target Henrikh Mkhitaryan, with Borussia Dortmund closing in on the deal.

German reports have claimed that Mkhitaryan wants a move to the Champions League runners-up and that he will replace the departed Mario Gotze.

Sky Sports Germany have reported that Dortmund officials are heading to Shakhtar to discuss a transfer.

Mkhitaryan has currently gone on strike to leave Shakhtar Donetsk, resulting in a number of fines by the club.

Liverpool have reportedly had contact with the 24-year-old, as he informed the Reds of his decision to join Dortmund.

Far Eastern reports still indicate that he is Anfield bound though.

Shakhtar Donetsk chief executive claims they have received no offers from Liverpool for Mkhitaryan

The chief executive of Shakhtar Donetsk Sergei Palkin claims there have been no contact from Liverpool and that Henrikh Mkhitaryan does not have a release clause in his contract.

Liverpool have been strongly linked with Mkhitaryan, after several reports have stated that Liverpool had agreed a fee of 25million for the Armenian international. Rodgers is thought to have made Mkhitaryan one of his top priorities after admitting Liverpool are still looking to add to their squad.

It has been suggested that Mkhitaryan has a release clause of 20million in his contract but Palkin denies this, stating it would take 25million to sign the 24-year-old.

Palkin has also revealed that Borussia Dortmund have made a 20million bid for Mkhitaryan but is not enough to prize away the Armenian international, revealing they will accept a 25million bid if one comes in.

“There is nothing new about Mkhitaryan,” Palkin told Football.ua. “I already have said that Borussia Dortmund offered €23 million for him; this was the sole offer. [But] our position is €30 million.

“Mkhitaryan’s contract does not specify a compensation payment. Thirty million dollars need to be paid to sever the contract unilaterally.

“If we go with the civilized way and sell a player but he severs the contract, we specify a transfer value of €30million (£25million).”

Shakhtar Donetsk boss: Liverpool are NOT a step up for Mkhitaryan

Shakhtar Donetsk boss Mircea Lucescu has given the biggest hint yet that Mkhitaryan is heading for the Premier League, but has warned that Mkhitaryan joining Liverpool is a big mistake and hopes the Armenian international changes his mind.

Mkitaryan is a 25million target for both Liverpool and Tottenham, with Liverpool his preferred destination reportedly. But Luesca has stated he does not see the wisdom in joining a team that are not currently qualified for Europe, while Shakhtar Donetsk makes the Champions League every season and challenge for trophies.

The struggle in signing Mkhitaryan is he’s not only owned by Shakhtar Donetsk but they share ownership with two other business groups, which is common in teams from Eastern Europe and South America. It is proving a slow process for Liverpool to negotiate with all three parties.

Lucescu claims there are not many bigger teams than Shakhtar Donetsk and Liverpool and Tottenham are not one of them, stating Liverpool are not Barcelona or Real Madrid.

“It is his decision, his desire, but there is still time for him to change his mind, because I think he is making a big mistake,” said Lucescu.

“I can understand the urge to leave if he has a chance to go to a club that surpasses Shakhtar, like Barcelona or Real Madrid, but not many clubs are beyond our level – not clubs like Liverpool or Tottenham.

“We are a strong club with 50,000 passionate supporters every week, and every year we are fighting for the league, the cups and the Champions League.

“The whole team is helping him become the player he is too, because everyone gives him the chance to show up in the penalty area and score the goals that make him wanted.

“This place is good for him, and he is making a mistake if he thinks there are many teams above this level.”

Liverpool agree 25million fee for Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Liverpool have reportedly won the race to sign highly-rated Armenian international Henrikh Mkhitaryan according to several Russian sources.

Liverpool’s interest in Mkhitaryan has turned into a bit of a saga with the Armenian international going AWOL from training to force through a move, Shakhtar Donetsk claimed that they had no contact with Liverpool and that Mkhitaryan would be available to sign only at 25million.

It was then reported that a number of clubs were starting to show more interest with reports claiming Borrussia Dortmund made a 19.5million bid which was rejected by the club, Tottenham also showed late interest looking to steal him from under Liverpool’s nose.

The 24-year-old has an outstanding campaign last season scoring 25 goals in 28 league appearances to break the all time scoring record in Ukraine from midfield.

According to reports the deal is set to be officially announced by the end of the week subject to a medical.

Liverpool have so far been very active in the transfer market with the recent acquisitions of Spanish duo Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas, Kolo Toure for a free transfer and Simon Mignolet from Sunderland, Liverpool are expected to look at their defence after the Mkhitaryan deal is completed.

The Armenian international is seen to be the kind of high-profile capture that Liverpool need to drive them into the top four and Mkhitaryan could be seen as a long term replacement for Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard.
