Mignolet has looked a lot more assured recently and put in another good display here. Couldn’t do anything for the goal but did make one outstanding save to prevent another set play goal to be conceded.
Nathaniel Clyne – 7.0
Clyne had another good performance and has become a beacon of consistency for Liverpool this season. Defended solidly and provided a good outlet down the right.
Martin Skrtel – 6.6
A much more assured performance from the Slovakian international after his shambolic display against Southampton the last time he played. Gave away the free kick which lead to Stoke’s equaliser, but this was a much better performance from Skrtel.
Kolo Toure – 6.5
Had a couple of shaky moments at the back but overall had a good game. Toure has had a good season and whenever he has had the chance to step up he has put in good performances consistently.
Alberto Moreno – 8.1
Moreno’s good form continues as he was solid defensively all game and scored a cracker of a goal, which has been coming for him this season. Provided a great asset down the left hand side and was always running the flank.
According to reports Alberto Moreno looks set to make his final appearance for Seville in the Supercup final against Real Madrid in Cardiff on Tuesday.
Liverpool will pay around 16million for Moreno, with youngster Suso potentially going to Seville on another season long loan spell in Spain.
Europa league winners Seville want Moreno to say his goodbyes to the fans in the showpiece final.
Only then will the deal be completed, after a drawn out transfer saga that saw the deal collapse twice.
Alberto Moreno would finally offer Liverpool a top draw left-back, having played Jon Flanagan out of position for the majority of the season, which has been a problematic area for Liverpool for a number of years.
Liverpool are considering a move for Swansea fullback Ben Davies, who is rated at 10million by his club.
Tottenham have been strong favourites to sign the Welshman all summer, but the move has stalled allowing Liverpool to make their move.
Liverpool are willing to match the 10million valuation, but Tottenham are trying to include players in exchange for Davies, which the Welsh side have rejected.
Swansea are willing to let the 21-year-old leave this summer as they already have a replacement in the team, Neil Tayler, but only if a club pay 10million.
Ben Davies has impressed in his last two seasons at Swansea, bursting on the scene at just 19 years old. The Welshman made 33 league appearances last season, and 37 league appearances in the previous campaign.
Liverpool’s first choice option is Alberto Moreno, but Seville are not willing to lower their valuation of 25million. Liverpool are now looking for alternatives to Moreno and Ben Davies is an option.
Liverpool have been heavily linked with Alberto Moreno all summer, but they would not budge of their own valuation of the Spanish international.
Seville Sporting Director Monchi has confirmed that the Alberto Moreno to Liverpool deal is dead, and he expects Moreno to now remain at the club.
In an interview with El Correo del Andalusia, Monchi clearly states that negotiations between the two clubs have broken down to the point where the deal can’t recover.
“The matter of Alberto is practically settled. We couldn’t reach an agreement and I don’t think it can be revived.
“It was great offer, but the player is only 21 years old and it’s possible that the catharsis of being with the national team had a positive effect. He has a lot of room to grow and the coach is very happy to have him. I don’t think we’ll make a lot of moves, but if on 14th August a club comes along and says “Vitolo” and they give you a mountain of cash, well….I know you don’t like to hear it, but we are economic managers.
“My feeling is that the negotiations are paralyzed and I don’t see any hint that they will be restarted. We put a price on our players which we believe to be appropriate. Whoever wants to buy, can buy, and if you can’t…Also, with the sale of Rakitic, our needs were covered. We don’t have the burden we had at other times.”
Liverpool will now look to other left-backs now, which has been a problem area for the Reds for a number of years.
Reports in Spain indicate that Liverpool have agreed a 5 year deal for Seville’s left-back Alberto Moreno.
Liverpool and Seville are finalising the fee for the Spanish international left-back, which is believed to be around 18million.
The Merseyside club have agreed personal terms with the 21-year-old and he is set to fly to Liverpool next week for a medical, after missing out on Spain’s 23-man squad for the World Cup.
It was reported earlier in the week that Tottenham were chasing after Moreno, but Moreno favours a move to Liverpool.
Moreno made 29 league appearances for Seville last season scoring three goals, while making 43 appearances in all competitions for the La Liga side. Moreno has three caps under his belt for Spain who is said to have a bright future for Spain.
