Liverpool call 8.5million transfer of Loic Remy off as concerns over Remy’s medical

Loic RemyLoic’s Remy 8.5million move to Liverpool from Queens Park Rangers has collapsed.

Remy was expected to be announced as Liverpool’s fifth summer signing but the Reds have pulled out of the deal at the last minute.

Liverpool FC have refused to comment on the situation but it is believed that there was a problem with Remy’s medical.

Remy, who scored 14 goals while on loan at Newcastle last season, had flew to Boston to partake in a routine medical after Liverpool triggered a release clause in Remy’s contract.

Personal terms were all agreed and he was set to be given the iconic number 7 shirt, left vacant by the departure of Luis Suarez.

Anfield sources put the delay in announcing the signing due to a minor paperwork issue, but it appears that Liverpool were seeking a second opinion on his medical.

On the back of that advice they decided not to proceed with the deal.

Reports indicate that the deal will not be resurrected and manager Brendan Rodgers will look to other striking targets.

Transfer News: Red clinch signings of Remy, Origi and Javier Manquillo..and plan further spending

RemyLiverpool look set to wrap up deals for QPR striker Loic Remy, Lille’s highly rated young striker Divock Origi and Atletico Madrid’s upcoming full-back Javier Manquillo.

Loic Remy has passed a medical in Boston on Wednesday and has agreed personal terms on a 4 year contract.

Remy is seen as a real bargain buy as he cost Liverpool just 8.5million to sign from QPR, having scored 14 goals during a loan spell at Newcastle.

Divock Origi is seen as a future star after impressing for Belgium at the World Cup, starting ahead of Chelsea striker Lukaku. Origi will cost Liverpool 10million and they could potentially loan him back to Lille for a season.

Liverpool are also close to wrapping up a deal for Aletico Madrid’s left-back Javier Manquillo, with this deal being a 2-year loan period with an option to buy for 5million at the end of the loan spell.

Liverpool have already signed 4 players this summer, Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert from Southampton, rising star Emre Can from Bayer Leverkusen and talented winger Lazar Markovic from Benfica for a combined 60million, potentially increasing to 80million if the Reds wrap up the triple deal.

Liverpool are not set to stop there either though with Liverpool targeting Southampton defender Dejan Lovren, with a potential 20million deal getting closer to completion.

Liverpool are also in the market for a left-back with the Reds still not giving up on Seville full-back Alberto Moreno, but are willing to move onto other targets in this position.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is also in the market for a ‘world-class’ midfielder and has targeted Juventus midfielder Vidal, and are also targeting Marco Reus from Borussia Dortmund who could be available for 30million.

Liverpool agree 8.5million fee for QPR striker Loic Remy

Loic RemyLiverpool have agreed a 8.5million fee to sign French striker Loic Remy from Queens Park Rangers.

Arsenal and Tottenham were both heavily linked with the striker during the transfer window, but it appears that Liverpool have won the race to sign the 27-year-old.

Liverpool wanted Remy to lower his wage demands from 80,000-a-week to 60,000-a-week, and it appears that Remy is willing to do just that to move to Liverpool.

With Liverpool agreeing a fee with Sunderland to sell Fabio Borini to them this represents very good business from Liverpool.

Remy scored 14 goals in 24 appearances the Premier League last season while on loan at Newcastle United, and for 8.5million represents a great piece of business for Liverpool.

Potential strikers Liverpool should target to replace Suarez

Loic Remy

Age: 27

Valuation: 10million

Last season: 14 goals in 24 league appearances

Loic Remy

Loic Remy, who was on loan at Newcastle United last season, is still a QPR player despite wanting to leave for over the last year. QPR signed Remy in January of 2013 to try to save them from relegation, despite the Frenchman scoring 6 goals QPR were ultimately relegated from the Premier League. Remy joined Newcastle last season for a yearlong loan where he scored 14 goals in 26 league appearances. Remy is not willing to stay at QPR or sign for Newcastle because he wants to sign for a team in the Champions League, and winning trophy’s. Remy is available for just 10million and is a bargain considering he has scored goals at whatever club he has been at and he boasts experiences in the Premier League. The 27-year-old suits Liverpool’s style of play and is lightening quick, but with Arsenal on the verge of completing the 10million deal Liverpool will have to get a move on if they want Remy.

Karim Benzema

Age: 26

Last season: 17 goals in 35 league appearances

With Real Madrid on the lookout for a new striker Karim Benzema could become available. The Frenchman scored 24 times in all appearances last season, that’s despite Ronaldo being the main man at Madrid. Benzema also had a very good World Cup, scoring three goals before France were knocked out by Germany in the quarter finals. If Madrid are to sign a striker then Benzema is likely to leave and the Premier League might interest him. Manchester United and Manchester City were heavily linked with Benzema before he signed for Madrid in 2009, and there will be a queue of clubs after him again if he departs Madrid this summer.
