Liverpool have been heavily linked with Alberto Moreno all summer, but they would not budge of their own valuation of the Spanish international.
Seville Sporting Director Monchi has confirmed that the Alberto Moreno to Liverpool deal is dead, and he expects Moreno to now remain at the club.
In an interview with El Correo del Andalusia, Monchi clearly states that negotiations between the two clubs have broken down to the point where the deal can’t recover.
“The matter of Alberto is practically settled. We couldn’t reach an agreement and I don’t think it can be revived.
“It was great offer, but the player is only 21 years old and it’s possible that the catharsis of being with the national team had a positive effect. He has a lot of room to grow and the coach is very happy to have him. I don’t think we’ll make a lot of moves, but if on 14th August a club comes along and says “Vitolo” and they give you a mountain of cash, well….I know you don’t like to hear it, but we are economic managers.
“My feeling is that the negotiations are paralyzed and I don’t see any hint that they will be restarted. We put a price on our players which we believe to be appropriate. Whoever wants to buy, can buy, and if you can’t…Also, with the sale of Rakitic, our needs were covered. We don’t have the burden we had at other times.”
Liverpool will now look to other left-backs now, which has been a problem area for the Reds for a number of years.
Barcelona are set to land Liverpool and Uruguay star Luis Suarez, for just 52 million according to Spanish paper El Mundo Deportivo.
The Catalan club reportedly want to add Luis Suarez to there already impressive firepower off Neymar and Messi, with the paper further claiming that the deal is close to completion.
The paper report that Liverpool have inserted a 68million release clause into Suarez’s contract that he recently signed, but the fee is reduced to 52million if the club chasing the Uruguayan is Real Madrid or Barcelona.
Barcelona also reportedly looked at other alternatives to Suarez with Robin Van Persie and Marco Reus making the shortlist according to this report.
Furthermore, they claim that Luis Suarez is in ‘love’ with Barcelona, with his daughter being born in Barcelona, and has always left the door open to a switch to the Spanish side.
The paper has dedicated 5 pages to the transfer of Luis Suarez and claim that Suarez made the decision to leave Liverpool after the 3-3 draw with Crystal Palace, with his on-going feud with the British media being the touted reason why he wants to leave Liverpool.
Pepe Reina looks like he will be returning to Anfield as Napoli refused to Liverpool’s valuation of Reina.
The Spanish international spent last season on loan at Napoli, under former Reds boss Rafa Benetez. Reina made 29 appearances league appearances last season as Napoli qualified for the Champions League and won the Copa Italia.
Reina’s agent has admitted it will be ‘difficult’ for the 31-year-old to remain at Napoli, after they could not meet Liverpool’s valuation of Reina.
It’s very difficult for Pepe to remain at Napoli,’ Reina’s agent, Manuel Garcia Quilon told ESPN.
‘From June 30, he will return to Liverpool because they want to maximise his sale, and Napoli are not willing to spend what is required.’
Reina has made 394 appearances for Liverpool, but was made made surplus to requirements under Brendan Rodgers, as Mignolet has established himself as the Reds number one.
Reina has made the Spain squad for the upcoming World Cup and is fully concentrated on the World Cup campaign with Spain.
‘Right now I’m only thinking of La Roja (Spain’s national team),’ Reina told Spanish radio station Cadena Ser recently.
‘With regards to a new club, I will first have to speak to Liverpool.
‘My season on loan at Napoli has been very positive and I thank the Napoli people and the club.’
Reports in Spain indicate that Liverpool have agreed a 5 year deal for Seville’s left-back Alberto Moreno.
Liverpool and Seville are finalising the fee for the Spanish international left-back, which is believed to be around 18million.
The Merseyside club have agreed personal terms with the 21-year-old and he is set to fly to Liverpool next week for a medical, after missing out on Spain’s 23-man squad for the World Cup.
It was reported earlier in the week that Tottenham were chasing after Moreno, but Moreno favours a move to Liverpool.
Moreno made 29 league appearances for Seville last season scoring three goals, while making 43 appearances in all competitions for the La Liga side. Moreno has three caps under his belt for Spain who is said to have a bright future for Spain.
Liverpool have made a surprise bid to take Chelsea star Juan Mata on loan, but Chelsea see the Spanish star as a key member of their squad and turned down the loan offer.
Tottenham have also enquired about the availability of Mata and were interested in buying the player outright.
Chelsea have hijacked Tottenham and Liverpool’s bid for Brazilian winger Willian, and with Chelsea still after Wayne Rooney, Tottenham and Liverpool were hoping that Chelsea will be willing to sanction Mata’s move away from the club.
Chelsea, though, have maintained their stance with Mata stating he is not for sale, quickly rebuffing Tottenham’s and Liverpool’s interest.
Tottenham were reportedly believed to be prepared to spend 30million on Mata, while Liverpool wanted to take the 25-year-old on loan for a season.
Mata could yet push for a move away from Chelsea if he feels threatened by the recent acquisition of Willain, especially that Mata wants to go to the World Cup with Spain and will need regular football.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho believes that Mata is a big part of Chelsea still though.
He said: “He is very important for me and very important for Chelsea.
“The stories that are coming out are nonsense stories. He goes nowhere.”
According to reports in Spain Liverpool are preparing a 12million bid for Granada full-back Guilherme Siqueira.
The Reds are looking to provide Jose Enrique with competition for the left-back slot in the side as Rodgers is a big believer that you need two players decent players for every position.
The 27-year-old has been a target for Merseyside rivals Everton if they sold Leighton Baines, and Real Madrid are also interested but they want to sell Fabio Coentrao first before making a move.
According to Spanish reports Rodgers is readying a 12million bid for Siqueira, but the paper goes on to state that the 12million figure falls well short of his 21million release clause in his contract.
The Granada full-back was a mainstay in the side last season, racking up 35 appearances in La Liga.
Reports today indicate that Liverpool have ended their interest in signing Benfica left-back Lorenzo Melgarejo, with many reports previously stating that Liverpool agreed a loan deal in principle to bring in the 22-year-old.
Liverpool are looking to strengthen their defensive ranks as Jose Enrique is the only senior left-back at the club now, after the Reds let Jack Robinson join Blackpool on a season long loan.
Both Glen Johnson and Daniel Agger have played at left-back before but Agger will start in the centre of defence and Rodgers is likely to stick by Johnson as he does not want to throw Martin Kelly, returning from a long layoff, straight into the mix of things.
Now, though, Liverpool are likely to move in for Valencia defender Aly Cissokho as defensive cover for Jose Enrique.
Reports in Spain have stated that Cissokho has agreed terms with the Reds and will become Liverpool’s fifth summer signing.
Sunderland held a strong interest in the full-back but it seems as if Liverpool have beaten their Premier League rivals to Cissokho.
