BoriniLiverpool could make a 3million profit from the sale of Fabio Borini after agreeing a 14million fee with Sunderland for the striker.

Liverpool have accepted Sunderland’s improved offer for the Italian, who has managed just two goals in 20 games for Liverpool.

The 23-year-old was one of Brendan Rodgers first signings at the club 2 years ago, after joining from Roma in an 11million deal from Roma.

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet was desperate to sign Fabio Borini, and the deal could be up to 14million with add-ons.

Sunderland will now discuss personal terms with the Italian international to undergo a medical as well.

Simon Mignolet welcomes Pepe Reina competition

Simon Mignolet has welcomed the competition he will face with Pepe Reina and Brad Jones for the goalkeeping slot.

The Belgium international signed from Sunderland for a fee of 9million to provide more depth in the team. Mignolet was last season one of the best, if not the best, goalkeeper in the Premier League last season and was voted Sunderland’s player of the season in an otherwise disappointing season for the Black Cats.

Reina has been the Reds undisputed goalkeeper since 2005 and Mignolet believes the task of displacing the Spaniard will only improve him as a player.

“That’s always what has happened when there’s competition,” the 25-year-old told ESPN FC. “I’ve had competition in Sunderland and in Belgium with the national team.

“It’s not only Pepe – there’s a lot of good goalies at Liverpool, like Brad Jones for example – and it’s not only the position of the goalie where there is competition. It’s every single position on the field.

“There are only 11 players who can play and it is something that is normal with being a football player. You have to deal with that. Competition can only make you as an individual better and let you perform better. It can only be a positive thing.”

Rodgers side kick off their season against Stoke City in six weeks time and Mignolet has been impressed by the rapid transfer business that has already been conducted.

“From the talks I had with the manager and the goalkeeping coach I felt they were very ambitious and the club wants to get forward,” the No.22 continued.

“The signings they’d already done before July showed they really wanted to get going. They want to push on again in the Premier League. It was obvious that they are an ambitious club and a big club.

“I know how big a club this is but I think I’m only going to feel it once the games get going. The first few training sessions went okay. I’m very happy to be here and train.”

Rodgers reveals why he signed a new goalkeeper.

The signing of Simon’s Mignolet from Sunderland was a shock to a few people, as Reina was committed to staying with Liverpool amid interest from Barcelona. Either one of Reina or Mignolet, both top class goalkeepers, will be on the bench and Rodgers has revealed why he brought a new goalkeeper.

Rodgers has revealed before how he believes you need two top class players for each position, thus why he signed Mignolet. It is a known fact that Reina has lost his form in the last two years, making several costly errors.

Brad Jones last season had to step in a few times for Reina when the Spaniard was injured and was not good enough, again making several costly errors.

Mignolet was one of the best, if not the best, goalkeeper in the Premier League last season in a disappointing season for Sunderland. The Belgium international made 11 clean sheets last season and was the Black Cats player of the season.

Rodgers is now spoilt for choice in the goalkeeping department as he now has three senior goalkeepers that can step up to the mark.

“I spoke to Pepe about this a few months back and told him we wanted to bring in another goalkeeper as real competition. Pepe has been terrific here, Brad Jones was excellent when he stood in last year, and I felt we needed another one.

“I was very open with my goalkeepers and they know the situation. Simon comes in and we’ve got great competition, and when you’ve got competition it pushes everyone to perform.

“We obviously lost a young goalkeeper in Peter Gulacsi so we needed three very capable goalkeepers – and we’ve brought in Simon Mignolet, who’s one of the top young goalkeepers in Europe. He’s shown that at Sunderland over the last few years.

“He’s got great stature and I think he was player of the season at Sunderland – and I really think he can improve on that talent.

“He’s part of the Belgian set-up and it’s really their golden era of players. Him coming here will hopefully increase his opportunities there also.”

He becomes the first Belgium to join Liverpool, with Brendan Rodgers welcoming Simon Mignolet to his squad.

“I am delighted that we have been able to sign one of the top goalkeepers in the Barclays Premier League,” said Rodgers.

“Simon will join a club that will give him an opportunity to demonstrate and improve his huge talent.”

Simon Mignolet is considered as one of the best young shot-stoppers in Europe, with Arsenal also holding an interest in the 24-year-old.

Liverpool agree 9million fee for Simon Mignolet

Liverpool have agreed a 9million fee for Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.

The Black Cats player of the year is set to be on Merseyside next week to discuss personal terms and to undertake a medical.

The 24-year-old arrived in Wearside in June 2010 for 2million from Belgium side Sint-Truiden and has gone on to make 101 appearances for Sunderland.

Mignolet impressed greatly last season keeping 11 clean sheets and played every single league game in a disappointing season for Sunderland.

The Belgium international believes a move to a bigger club will greatly improve his chances of being Belgium’s number one before the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

It is said that Mignolet wants assurances over his place in the team as Reina has said he will stick to his contract unless a big club come in for him, with Arsenal and Barcelona both being heavily linked with the Spanish goalkeeper.

Mignolet will possible be The Reds fourth signing by the time he arrives, as The Reds have agreed deals for Kolo Toure and Iago Aspas while Seville winger Luis Alberto is in Liverpool to agree personal terms and complete a medical.

Liverpool are also targeting Sporting Lisbon defender Tiago Llori and Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Liverpool close in on 10 million Simon Mignolet

Liverpool are set to make Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet there third signing this summer.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has made the Belgium stopper one of his top targets this summer, as doubts increase as to whether Pepe Reina will stay at Anfield.

Liverpool are looking at completing their transfer business early this summer and put in an opening bid of 6.5million, which Sunderland flatly denied for a player that was key to help them from relegation. Liverpool made a second bid worth 8million but again Sunderland rejected. The Wearsiders want their valuation of the player to be matched, which stands at 10million.

The 10million price tag has not put off Liverpool though as they look to find a replacement for long-standing goalkeeper Pepe Reina. Liverpool are prepared to match Sunderland’s valuation of the Black Cats player of the season, if the Wearsiders valuation is matched then it appears Mignolet will be on his way to Anfield.

Arsenal, who are looking to sign a new shot stopper, showed an interest in Mignolet but have not put any bid as of yet but they could always step in with a late bid for Mignolet.

The clubs hottest property has been the subject of intense speculation since the end of the season after an impressive campaign, where he was considered of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League. Talks off a extension to his contract at the Stadium Of Light, which has two years left running, have stalled as the player and his agents are considering their options.

Mignolet’s chief agent, Guy Vandersmissen, said earlier this month that the keeper would not ask for a move but that the ball was firmly in Sunderland’s court.

“There is a contract so we have to respect that, but I don’t think at this moment we would be prepared to sign a new contract,” commented Vandersmissen.

“There is another two years on his contract, if they want us to stick to that, we will stick to that and perhaps leave after two years if there is an interest in Simon.”

Sunderland would not want Mignolet to leave on a free transfer so if he does not accept a contract extension then Sunderland would rather sell him this summer and get more money to reinvest in there squad.

Sunderland will not sell the Belgium international if they do not have their valuation met by Liverpool as the Anfield club are receiving mixed messages from Reina about his future at the club, stating it would be hard to turn down Barcelona but was committed to his Liverpool contract. Liverpool are trying to reduce their wage bill and Reina is one of the highest earners at the club on 110,000-a-week and has not particularly been at his best form in recent years and won’t be considered a big loss to the club.

Mignolet is said to be happy at Sunderland but wants to oust Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtis as Belgium number one before the 2014 World Cup and knows that a big move will improve his chances.

The Sunderland goalkeeper had a great season playing in all 38 league games keeping 11 clean sheets and saving Sunderland from relegation, thanks to many point saving games over the course of the season.

But he knows that a move to a high profile team will improve will enhance his international career which is important to him.
