Why now is the time for Liverpool to sell Luis Suarez

Liverpool supporters will be scratching their heads up and down the world after the latest Luis Suarez controversy. Supporters of Liverpool and football fans in general, know what a genius player the Uruguayan is. He is arguably the third best player in the world at the moment and he is admired and hated for the same reason, his quality. But, after this latest controversy, surely it has to be ‘three strikes and you’re out’.

I’m sure Liverpool supporters will not be needed to remember the three incidents, but here they are anyway. First strike was the alleged racist comments from Suarez to Patrice Evra in a match against fierce rivals Manchester United, which earned Suarez an 8 game ban, but to add salt further to the wound the Uruguayan refused to shake the hand of Patrice Evra in a match later on in the season.

The second strike was ‘bitegate 2’, where he bit Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic, clearly caught by the TV cameras in a crucial game at Anfield which finished 2-2, ironically with Suarez scoring a last minute equalizer. This incident got him a 10 ban, resulting in Suarez missing the first 6 games of the new campaign.

Strike 3 for Liverpool is this latest incident, ‘bitegate 3’. What better stage could Suarez represent himself on than the 2014 FIFA World Cup in the footballing home of Brazil. Suarez has been banned from all of football for 4 months and can’t even train with Liverpool.

Liverpool have to look at the facts, he has missed 38 games throughout his career for biting a player, add on to that the Racism row that’s a staggering 46 games he has missed throughout his career from bans. He clearly wanted to leave Liverpool last summer, and did everything in his power that he could, but Liverpool made him stay. But, for a second summer in a row, even before the World Cup, Suarez was agitating for a move to either Real Madrid or Barcelona, with some fans even claiming he bit Chiellini to get his dream move to Spain.

Liverpool have a player at their hands that is a ‘loose-cannon’, add on to that he doesn’t even want to be at Anfield anyway.

Barcelona are willing to pay 80million for Suarez, possibly with a player joining in exchange, and Liverpool can do a lot with that sort of money, spent wisely of course. Life has always moved on at Liverpool, just look at the striker’s Liverpool have had in the past, Fernando Torres and Michael Owen looked irreplaceable at the time, but Liverpool have moved on. To make yourselves get over the ‘betrayal’ look at the careers that Michael Owen and Fernando Torres have had after leaving Liverpool.

Liverpool have something that a lot of clubs don’t  have‘a name’. Liverpool are one of the most respected clubs in world football with Manchester United, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Ajax etc. The name has no doubt suffered through these incidents, and will only suffer more if Liverpool continues to stand by these actions.

There is no doubting the quality Suarez has, but now is the perfect time for him to leave Anfield.
