Skrtel and Ibe leave the club for a combined 20million

fenerbahce and Bournemouth have both announced the signings of Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel and winger Jordon Ibe for a combined fee of 20million.

Skrtel is a vastly experienced centre back who made 319 appearances for the club after he was signed from Russian club Zenit St Petursburg for a fee of 5million.

The Slovakian international had been at the club for 8 years and scored a impressive 18 goals in his time at Liverpool.

The 31 year old had fallen down the pecking order at Liverpool last season under Jurgen Klopp as he built up a partnership between Dejan Lovren and Mamadou Sakho, with veteran defender Kolo Toure being utilised before Skrtel was.

It’s sad to see a player go after such a long time at the club and many memory’s but clearly now the time is right Skrtel to leave the club after a number of high profile errors in the last few seasons.

Jordan Ibe has also left the club after showing so much promise last season he has also fallen down the pecking order at Anfield.

The 20 year old made 58 appearances for the club with all four of his goals coming last season, but only one coming in the Premier League. Ibe made his Liverpool debut at just 17 years old and a game against QPR three years ago and hasn’t capped off on his potential that he once had.

A fee of 15million represents fantastic business by the Reds as he is a player that hasn’t proven himself in the Premier League as of yet and for him and Bournemouth it is a good move as he will get first team football as well as giving Bournemouth the chance at attempting to fulfil his talent that he has at just 20 years old.

Ibe fallen down the pecking order under Klopp like Skrtel did as he was the only senior winger at the club and still wasn’t able to get into a team that was struggling for width, with Mane’s signing this further pushed him to the exit door.

Where do Liverpool still need to strengthen

Liverpool have already added some fresh faces to the club but where do we still need to strengthen and what positions are we possibly to stacked in?

Goalkeepers

Liverpool has goalkeepers a plenty right now, Mignolet and new signing Karius are vying for the first team place with one destined to be sat on the bench. This was a void that Liverpool really needed to improve as Mignolet needed somebody to at least put the pressure on him, or even replace depending on the Liverpool fan that you speak to. Danny Ward, who is the third choice now, has recently signed a new long term deal at Liverpool but will be loaned out to Huddesfield in the championship for the season and Liverpool are heavily rumoured to be signing 39 year old Alex Manninger who would be the third choice for the coming season if signed. This then means that Bogdan has no future at Liverpool despite featuring in the Reds preseason friendly against Tranmere for 45 minutes and has been heavily touted to move to Wigan in the coming days.

Verdict: Liverpool has plenty of options in this position but with the departures of Ward and Bogdan a third choice could be important to get wrapped up.

Full backs

This is a position where Liverpool does need to strengthen as the lack of depth in these positions is risky to say the least going into the upcoming season. Nathaniel Clyne was signed last summer and he made the most appearances of any Liverpool player last season making over 50 appearances in his debut season due to the lack of options to even rest him. He had a fantastic season but we were lucky he never got injured last season as Randall would of had to come in if that was the case. Flanagan is back now and hopefully gets a full preseason of playing football as he has been badly missed and he would fill the void of being clyne’s understudy if he can stay fit. On the left side of the defence we have the much criticised Alberto Moreno who hasn’t massively impressed since signing two years ago, his attacking prowess is unquestionable as he was by the far the most creative full back in the Premier league last season but it is his defensive work where he is often found out of position and lacking the intelligence to play this position as he is caught out on a consistent basis. His tackling is rash, he often loses out to stronger players but he does have the pace to help him out at times. If Klopp can curb his erratic defending there is no doubting he would be a fantastic first choice it’s just whether Moreno can learn to defend better. With Moreno’s understudy being either Flanagan, again, or Brad Smith the options in this position is not that strong. Brad Smith is very similar to Moreno where he is very good offensively but his positioning and overall defending is poor.

Verdict: I’m overall happy with the two first choices in Clyne and Moreno, but we at least need another good left back to be able to challenge Moreno on the left side. Flanagan is a very good understudy for Clyne providing he can keep himself fit this season.

Transfer News: Red clinch signings of Remy, Origi and Javier Manquillo..and plan further spending

RemyLiverpool look set to wrap up deals for QPR striker Loic Remy, Lille’s highly rated young striker Divock Origi and Atletico Madrid’s upcoming full-back Javier Manquillo.

Loic Remy has passed a medical in Boston on Wednesday and has agreed personal terms on a 4 year contract.

Remy is seen as a real bargain buy as he cost Liverpool just 8.5million to sign from QPR, having scored 14 goals during a loan spell at Newcastle.

Divock Origi is seen as a future star after impressing for Belgium at the World Cup, starting ahead of Chelsea striker Lukaku. Origi will cost Liverpool 10million and they could potentially loan him back to Lille for a season.

Liverpool are also close to wrapping up a deal for Aletico Madrid’s left-back Javier Manquillo, with this deal being a 2-year loan period with an option to buy for 5million at the end of the loan spell.

Liverpool have already signed 4 players this summer, Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert from Southampton, rising star Emre Can from Bayer Leverkusen and talented winger Lazar Markovic from Benfica for a combined 60million, potentially increasing to 80million if the Reds wrap up the triple deal.

Liverpool are not set to stop there either though with Liverpool targeting Southampton defender Dejan Lovren, with a potential 20million deal getting closer to completion.

Liverpool are also in the market for a left-back with the Reds still not giving up on Seville full-back Alberto Moreno, but are willing to move onto other targets in this position.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is also in the market for a ‘world-class’ midfielder and has targeted Juventus midfielder Vidal, and are also targeting Marco Reus from Borussia Dortmund who could be available for 30million.

Transfer Rumours: Liverpool add Vidal, Pogba and Marco Reus to shortlist

MAIN-Arturo-Vidal-Paul-Pogba-Marco-ReusLiverpool look to smash through the 100million barrier this summer for the first time in their history.

Manager Brendan Rodgers has already spent 60million this summer and still has QPR forward Loic Remy, Southampton defender Dejan Lovren and young Swansea full-back Ben Davies on his radar.

Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Liverpool are still looking to spend and looks to have the whole 75million from the Luis Suarez deal to spend this summer “We are working hard behind the scenes to find players, but it will not be a direct replacement [for Suarez].

“We are looking for several players who can add to what we have and improve us again.”

Last summer Tottenham spent 85million after selling Gareth Bale, and it did not work out for the Londoners.

Manager Andre-Villas Boas lost his jobs 4 months later, after Tottenham saw their title hopes fade and saw their Champions League hopes fades to.

However, Rodgers claims that selling Luis Suarez will make them stronger in the long run as they now have the financial capabilities to challenge Manchester City and Chelsea.

The Northern Irishman, who steered the Kop club to a surprise second place last season, said: “Obviously, Luis going gives us the clout to go and spend more and we are getting the right type of player in.

“We certainly won’t spend just for the sake of spending. It has to be the sort of player who is going to improve us. But we will definitely be stronger this season – no doubt.”

Liverpool have already brought in Adam Lallana, Emre Can, Rickie Lambert and Lazar Markovic and they look certain to double the 60million they have spent already.

Liverpool tried earlier this summer to sign a ‘marquee signing’ in Alexis Sanchez, but he favoured a move to Arsenal over Liverpool.

Liverpool want a top class midfielder and could target Arturo Vidal or Paul Pogba, with Vidal being linked with a move to arch-rivals Manchester United.

Vidal would cost around 30million but Liverpool have Champions League football that they can offer, something that Manchester United could not attract Vidal with.

Paul Pogba has been linked with Chelsea this summer, but will cost around 60million to price away from Juventus this summer.

Liverpool are also targeting Marco Reus, who could be available for around 30million, and would offer another threat up front or on the wing.

Any of these players would represent a marquee signing by the Reds and would lift the fans spirits for the new season after the departure of Luis Suarez.

Brendan Rodgers: We will move on from Luis Suarez

Rodgers and SuarezBrendan Rodgers has urged Liverpool fans to keep on believing in Liverpool and that there is life after Luis Suarez.

This is the first time Rodgers has spoken publically about Luis Suarez since the 75million deal for Luis Suarez was confirmed.

“Luis going doesn’t lessen our ambitions – we want to continually improve. I thank Luis contribution over the years at the club, he’s a wonderful player, but we will move on,” he explained.

“Luis, in his contribution over the years, has been wonderful but he has moved on and I will concentrate on the players we have – and who have won many games without him playing.”

Rodgers has vowed to bring in more signings, although they might not be direct replacements for Suarez.

“We’re working hard behind the scenes to get the best players- not a direct replacement, but who can add things to our game again,” he explained.

“We will go and do our best. Our best last year nearly won us the title. It’s going to be competitive because everyone is strengthening but the beauty is we are a young group and will progress again.

“It will be a really exciting season and this year we will have the belief to go with the quality. The players we have here are a fantastic group who have won many games without Luis.”

Liverpool line up Markovic and Origi moves

Divock Origi

Divock Origi

With the transfer of Adam Lallana close to completion, Liverpool are lining up further signings, Belgium starlet Divock Origi and Benfica winger Markovic.

Origi is 19-years-old and he has drawn interest from Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool, but Liverpool look to wrap up the 6million deal by offering to loan him back to Lille for next season.

Liverpool have watched Origi all season and the Belgium has drawn rave reviews after his performances for Belgium in the World Cup.

Origi seems keen on a Premier League, having admitted it his dream to play in the Premeir League.

As a little boy I always dreamed of playing in the Premier League,’ said Origi, as reported by the Express.

‘But I’m still young and now I’m in an important tournament so I’m trying to focus on the team. Then my entourage will see with Lille what I will do.’

Liverpool are also interested in Benfica’s winger Lazar Markovic, rated at 25million by the Portuguese side.

Markovic is just 20-years-old and is known for his blistering speed and an eye for goal, and the 20-year-old will give Rodgers lots of options next season as they look to challenge for the Premier League title.

With Liverpool seemingly completed the transfer of Adam Lallana, the Merseyside club are moving onto new targets quickly.

Liverpool also hold a strong interest on Barcelona attacker Alexis Sanchez, who could be part of any potential Suarez deal. As well as Bayern Munich winger Xherdan Shaqiri, who recently scored a hat trick for Switzerland at the World Cup.

Rodgers looking for hungry players

Brendan RodgersBrendan Rodgers has stated that when searching for new players not just ability will play a part in the potential signings.

Having narrowly missed out on the Premier League title to Manchester City last season Liverpool have been busy in the transfer market already, with the signings of Rickie Lambert and Emre Can.

With Rodgers insisting that mentality will play a key part in any potential signings as the Reds look to go one better next season and win the Premier League title.

He told the Liverpool Echo: “What we do need to do to ensure we kick on? We need to ensure we continue with our thinking in terms of the types of players we’re going to bring in.

“We want to bring in players who are hungry. They must have the ambition to want to come in and succeed here.

“We need players who there can be no doubts about their quality.

“We’re in a position now where we’re going straight into the group stage of the Champions League and we’re going into the Premier League next season with an expectation and a belief that we can win the league.

“We need players that have those qualities. That belief, players who are willing to improve and who are hungry to improve themselves.

“If we can get a number of signings with that profile then we can go on and build on last season.”

With Liverpool qualifying for the Champions League Rodgers knows he needs a bigger squad to keep the team fresh.

It’s one where we just need good players,” added the boss.

“The position we were in last summer was that we were losing players who were cover players and it was difficult for us to bring in starters.

“This year the squad will change around. We will need to change the team regularly over the course of the season in order to keep the efficiency and the energy in the team.

“Those players who are coming in need to be capable starters. They have to be to the level that we require to perform. That is absolutely key for us this summer.”

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers set to have 60million war-chest to spend

Rodgers to be rewarded

Rodgers to be rewarded

Brendan Rodgers will be given the biggest war-chest in the history of Liverpool FC as a reward for guaranteeing Liverpool Champions League football, and possibly delivering the Premier League title.

Premier League leaders Liverpool can finish no lower than third place, which automatically places them in the Champions’ League group stages, well before of schedule.

Rodgers will be given at least 60million to spend, plus any made from sales.

Ian Ayre confirmed on Tuesday that Liverpool will be spending in the summer to help Liverpool challenge in more competitions.

Ayre said “What we achieved on Sunday was massive. This isn’t just about getting in the qualifiers [by finishing fourth] – we are guaranteed Champions League football. It is an unbelievable achievement from where we were.

“There is no question we always expected that the squad we need for next season will be very different to the squad that we have needed for this year when we were not playing in Europe. That has always been on the cards.

“We set out with an ambition to get into the Champions League, and now we are guaranteed third and we are determined to push on. It is all important for what we are trying to achieve.”

“It will cost what it costs when we decide who the manager wants to buy, but it has always been tougher in the transfer market when you are not competing at the highest level,” he added.

“We had the issue with Luis (Suarez, who was chased by Arsenal) last summer because he wanted to play in the best games against the best players. That is always a factor.

“There is no question it opens up a few doors for us and makes it a little bit easier.

“Even when you step through that door though, there are still a lot of others trying to get the same players. You can’t trade on a name, absolutely. You get a little bit of that, but there is definitely a challenge. That’s the reality.”

Aly Cissokho: I’ve agreed personal terms now all that’s left is for the two teams to reach a agreement.

Valencia defender Aly Cissokho has confirmed that he has agreed personnel terms with Liverpool over a move, all that’s left now is whether it’s a loan deal or a transfer.

Valencia are keen to sell the full-back as they are in financial trouble while Liverpool are keen to bring Cissokho on a loan deal, before possibly buying him next summer.

Rumors had suggested that the two teams had agreed a 870,000 fee to take Cissokho to Liverpool on loan for a season, upon agreeing a future fee which was reportedly set at 3.5million.

Speaking to Le10Sport, Cissokho said: “Liverpool came to me and it’s true that I have agreed to join them. Now it’s down to the clubs to decide a transfer deal.”

Cissokho added: “Liverpool want a loan, while Valencia prefer a permanent transfer.”

He said: “We should know more this week. If nothing happens in that time it will mean I am definitely not joining Liverpool.”

Rodgers: We’re still looking for new additions to the squad

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed he is still looking to add new players to his squad, after Kolo Toure became the fourth summer signing for the Reds.

Rodgers has praised the clubs recruitment team for their work in completing four signings before a single ball has been kicked in pre-season.

Iago Aspas, Luis Alberto, Simon Mignolet and Kolo Toure all reported for their first day of training yesterday and Rodgers has revealed they are not the only new recruits to report for training.

He said: “I still think another attacking, creative player, and depending on what goes out of the club – because naturally there might be one or two players who need to go out and play more – then we’ll need to fill those areas that have been vacated.

“Certainly another attacking player will really benefit us, and probably another defender. We’ll see how it develops over the course of the next few months.”

Rodgers admitted the swift action on transfers was a key strategy for the club this summer.

“It’s great – it’s a big thing to the club because we looked at last summer and there were lots of things that were difficult for us,” he said. “That meant that the opening period of the season was difficult.

“From that we’ve got all our people involved, our recruitment team in – and they got to work as soon as they came in.

“We brought great signings in in January and that’s really helped us. Obviously the plan was to get our signings in as soon as we possibly could – and we still hope to make a few more.

“I’m very happy with the four players I’ve brought in, and they’ll add to the group.
